About Us
Our Mission
Since 1870, the Humane Society of Missouri is dedicated
to second chances. We provide a safe and caring haven
to all animals in need - large and small - that have
been abused, neglected or abandoned. Our mission is
to end the cycle of abuse and pet overpopulation through
our rescue and investigation efforts, spay/neuter
programs and educational classes. We are committed
to creating lasting relationships between people and
animals through our adoption programs. We further
support that bond by making available world-class
veterinary care, and outstanding pet obedience and
behavior programs. The animals thank you for your
support.
About Our Locations
Macklind Avenue Headquarters Center in St. Louis City
Opened in 1998, the headquarters of the Humane Society
of Missouri reside at 1201 Macklind Avenue in St.
Louis, Missouri, across the street from our former
residence of nearly 70 years. Our current building
was once a pharmaceutical warehouse; rehabbing an
existing building saved Humane Society of Missouri
donors millions of dollars. Click here for center hours.

Chesterfield Valley Center
Opened in 2006, the Chesterfield Valley Center offers pet adoptions, veterinary care, a pet-themed gift shop and receiving services for unwanted animals.
The Center offers a new and unique habitat for homeless pets. Much like going to see a new baby in a nursery, adopters can peek into see Labs, Shih Tzus, Siamese and Calicos without anything obstructing the view. The “invisible” cage fronts made of tempered glass let both the animals and people get a good look at each other. Inside, the animals enjoy playing with toys, climbing on perches or just taking a nap in their cribs. Click here for center hours and location.

Westport
Area Center in Maryland Heights
Attention North and West County residents - we're
closer than you think!
Thanks to a donation by Elizabeth N. Parrish, our
county adoption center was built in 1974 in Maryland
Heights. Additional funds raised by the Humane Society
of Missouri Auxiliary paid for a clinic and laboratory.
The building was again expanded in 1981 thanks to
another donation from the auxiliary. Click here for center hours and location.

Carol
Gates Throop Memorial Park
Featuring a fountain, pavilion and lovely gardens,
Carol Gates Throop Memorial Park is situated at 1210
Macklind Avenue on the grounds of the former Humane
Society of Missouri headquarters, where - from 1929
until 1998 - more than a million homeless pets found
a second chance at life.
Volunteer dog walkers take dogs waiting to be adopted
to the park for daily sessions in housetraining, socialization
and lessons in basic obedience. Since behavior problems
are the primary reason pets are relinquished to shelters,
daily walks in Throop Park help the newly-adopted
stay in their homes.
After hours, Throop Park becomes a beautiful setting
for fundraisers. If you would like to rent Throop
Park for your event, phone (314) 951-1542 or e-mail
the facility rental department.
To
honor a loved one with a tribute
or memorial in Carol Gates Throop Memorial Park,

department.
