Lost & Found

File an online report for your lost pet.

Search our online database of of found pets.

If you have lost your pet, check to see if he or she is at one of the Humane Society of Missouri locations by searching our online database of found pets. Click your pet's description, such as type of animal, age and color. Then click on the photo you believe is your pet to obtain that animal's identification number, and call the phone number listed.

Tips to prevent your pet from becoming lost:

Every day, thousands of dogs dig their way out of backyards and cats sprint out doors. Please take these precautions in advance:

  • Ensure ALL of your pets - even those who "never go outside" - wear collars with ID tags at all times.
  • Schedule an appointment to have your pets microchipped.
    - St. Louis Veterinary Medical Center: (314) 951-1534
    - County Veterinary Medical Center in Maryland Heights: (314) 951-1590
    - Chesterfield Veterinary Medical Center: (636) 530-0807
  • Once your pet is microchipped, please keep the source of your chip - adoption center, veterinarian, etc. - and the national database of the manufacturer of the microchip current on any changes to your address and phone number.
  • Always keep your cat indoors. Keep your dog indoors, on a leash or in a fenced yard. Sadly, many pets are stolen when left unattended outside.

We hope you never lose your pet, but if you do:

  • Start looking immediately. Do not assume that your pet will "come back when he's ready." Animal shelters are required to hold stray animals for only five days, after which they may be placed into a new home or euthanized. Don't give up! Many pets are found after being missing for weeks or even months.
  • Check with all neighbors within 4-6 blocks of your home. Sometimes pets, especially cats, are found a short distance from where they live.
  • Post signs in your neighborhood with a photo detailing your pet's color, size, breed, age, sex and any identification. Offering a reward might speed your pet's return.
  • Place ads in your local newspapers. Sometimes newspapers run lost & found ads at no charge.
  • Visit ALL animal shelters in your area as often as possible. Animals might be picked up in one area but taken to a shelter in a different place, so be sure to call and/or visit as many shelters as possible.
