Update on Dog Thrown from Overpass
January 18, 2008-It is with heavy hearts that we report that the pit bull cruelly thrown from the Union Blvd. overpass has died. In addition to multiple fractures in the bones of both front legs, the dog probably sustained nerve damage, according to Dr. Melinda Fleming, assistant director of Veterinary Medical Services for the Humane Society of Missouri. Therefore, after detailed consultation and examination of the dog, veterinarians with the Humane Society of Missouri last night determined it was in the dog’s best interest that it should be humanely euthanized.
“This dog was in severe, nearly uncontrollable pain and it was questionable whether he would be able to walk again. That someone would allow a pet to be abused in this way is unthinkable and heartbreaking,” said Dr. Fleming.
The Humane Society of Missouri continues to offer a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who threw this dog and another large Golden Retriever or Akita mix from the Union Blvd. overpass Thursday evening. The second dog ran from the scene and has yet to be found. The Humane Society Rescues and Investigations team, along with Animal Control and the St. Louis City Police Department, will continue to look for the missing dog.
“We will continue to work closely with the St. Louis City Police Department to find the people who committed these horrible acts of cruelty,” said Tim Rickey, director of Rescues and Investigations for the Humane Society of Missouri. “When they are found, we will recommend prosecution of this felony crime to the full extent of the law.”
Persons with information pertaining to this case are asked to call the Humane Society of Missouri Rescues and Investigations Department at (314) 802-5712 or St. Louis City Police North Patrol District 6 at 314-444-0001.

Two Dogs Thrown Off Union Overpass;
Humane Society of Missouri Offering $2500 Reward For Information about the Perpetrator
January 17, 2008- The Humane Society of Missouri is offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/persons responsible for throwing two dogs off the Union Boulevard overpass in north St. Louis City. At approximately 5:30 p.m. last night, the Humane Society received a phone call from the St. Louis City Police Department that a concerned citizen walking to his car witnessed two dogs falling from the Union overpass. The Humane Society and the Police Department believe the dogs were thrown off the bridge.
The two dogs, a Pit Bull and large Golden Retriever or Akita mix, fell approximately 30 ft onto the west side of the Union Avenue Receiving parking lot, which is just south of I-70. The Pit Bull suffered two broken front legs and was unable to walk. Although the other dog was able to run away, the Humane Society is concerned that it may also have suffered serious injury. The Pit Bull was taken to the Humane Society of Missouri’s headquarters on Macklind Avenue for emergency treatment. Veterinary Medical staff are still assessing the full extent of the dog’s injuries.
The Humane Society Rescues and Investigations team, along with Animal Control and the St. Louis City Police Department will continue to look for the missing dog. Persons with information pertaining to this case are asked to call the Humane Society of Missouri Rescues and Investigations Department at (314) 802-5712 or St. Louis City Police North Patrol District 6 at 314-444-0001.
