Hurricane Katrina

Charity Navigator, a non-profit watchdog group, has deemed the Humane Society of Missouri a top-rated charity, awarding four stars out of four.

Please support our Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts by making a tax-deductable, secure online donation. Thank you.

Thank you for your support and words of encouragement.

Neal, Darcy, Murph and Shadow Shulman present Humane Society of Missouri president Kathy Warnick with $508.

Over the three-day Labor Day weekend, Neal and Darcy Shulman raised almost $1000 for the Humane Society of Missouri and The American Red Cross through their lemonade stand dubbed “Kash For Katrina.”

Asked why they gave up their last few days of summer to stand in the hot sun, they simply replied, “We wanted to help kids like us and pets are victims too.”   Their Mom says that she tries to teach them that although bad things do happen, there will always be good people to help heal the world.

Many thanks to the children at Adventure Learning Center, Ltd. of Ballwin,
who donated supplies and $447.23 for the pets rescued from the hurricane zone.

Listen to a call we received from a trucker on 08/31/05:

You deserve praise for your Katrina rescue efforts.  My check is in the mail to you.  I felt so sorry for a doctor (Tulane Hospital?) who appeared on "Inside Edition" and is searching for his dog.  Maybe you will find it.  God bless.

I only wish I could afford to leave work and head down to help all of you people who care for the animals.  I know the main focus is on people and it worries me that the animals will not be taken care of.  So good to know you people are down there and helping.  In watching the news, I saw dogs sitting on debris with nothing but water around them and crying because the boats for people were just passing them by.  I hope all goes well for you and all the other animal rescuers.   I hope your website will sent out updates with the progress of rescuing animals.  Good luck to you all- and THANK YOU! (I adopted my dog from your group and am so thankful you allowed me to adopt her.  She's a wonderful friend to me.  I live in Lancaster, PA)

Thank you for your help in rescuing these poor helpless animals.  I am truly an animal lover and I am so worried about those lost out there.  I will continue with my support for your organization.  God bless you all.

I just made a donation for your disaster relief efforts. Best of luck to your entire team as they undertake this huge endeavor. I am so thankful that there are people who care just as much about the needs of our animal companions!

Thank you for responding to my donation.  If I could donate thousands of dollars, I certainly would.  It is not only the dear little creatures suffering, but also their owners upon losing them.   I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose our dear, little rescued poodle.  She is so grateful and the spark in our life!   Our prayers are with the wonderful and giving people from the Humane Society traveling to the devastation to save as many animals as possible, give them the security they need and reunite them with their families.

Keep up the amazing work. God Bless.

I'll continue to give what I can, when I can, and really am grateful for your efforts.  Thanks so much and continue to keep up the great work.  You all will be in my prayers.

Thank you for all of your efforts in saving our animal friends suffering from Hurricane Katrina. You all are guardian angels to these pets in need, and they are lucky to have kind folks like you and many others looking after them.

Great job rescue team, keep up the great but very hard work.

Two weeks ago when I was leaving the building I saw the trucks outside getting ready to head out. That really helped the sadness and helplessness I feel for all those animals. You always tell the volunteers "Thank You". Now I want to tell you "Thank You" for letting me be a part of this fantastic organization.

I just read Debbie Hill's most recent update to the Hurricane Katrina diary.  I don't know that I can adequately explain my admiration, awe, respect and thanks for what Debbie and the entire team are doing to help rescue and save as many animals as possible.  I'm sure their tireless efforts are paid off a hundredth fold with every animal they rescue and save, but I hope they also know how much the work they are doing is appreciated by those of us that can't be there.  Please send them a great big Thank You from me, and please let them know that they are in my prayers as well as all the people and animals affected by this tragedy.

Your guys are bigger heros than you even know. I just dont know what the outcome of this disaster would be if it wasnt for your team. My heart can breathe when I think of you people out there doing everything you can to save all that you can. May God truely bless you.
