From Debbie Hill,
director of Rescues & Investigations
This morning, our team in Pascagoula, Mississippi (Carmen, Tim,
Brett and Kyle) along with HSUS workers, went to the aid of a miniature
pinscher breeder. His operation had been flooded. Trees had fallen
and crushed cages and other shelter areas.
 |
Rescued:
80 live min pins and
one pit bull;
60 dogs were found dead. |

The team used chain saws
and crowbars to find and
rescue animals. More than
60 dogs were found dead.
The team rescued 80 live
min pins and one pit bull
and spent the day working
with the owner to
re-set up his facility.
He has enough food and
water for the remaining
animals, which will remain
at that location.
Tonight that team will
probably relocate to an
arena in Hattiesburg, Mississippi,
which will serve as a temporary
animal shelter and staging
area.
The Mississippi Coliseum
team in Jackson (Linda,
John, Brian and Debbie)
assisted the North Shore
Animal League (NSAL) in
loading the animals rescued
from the Humane Society
of Southern Mississippi
in Gulfport. North Shore
Animal League will transport
those animals to Birmingham,
Alabama animal shelters. Tonight
this team is probably headed
for the Jackson County Animal
Shelter in Gautier, Mississippi
near Pascagoula.
The Animal Rescue Vehicle
has been repaired and auxiliary
diesel and regular fuel
obtained. We’ve been
told there is fuel available
for rescue teams in the
Jackson County (Pascagoula)
area.
Something that is helping
us through these difficult
rescue operations is the
praise and appreciation
we are receiving from other
animal rescue groups. In
addition, several times
during this trip we have
benefited from the kindness
of strangers who are appreciative
our work. We are thankful
for everyone’s support
during this extraordinary
time.
