Monday, September 05,
2005 (Labor Day)
From
Debbie Hill,
director of Rescues & Investigations
Power and water at the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Gautier,
Mississippi (near Pascagoula) had been out since the storm, but
dedicated local animal shelter volunteers had been bringing food
and water to the shelter animals as best they could. Those same
volunteers assisted the Humane Society of Missouri rescue team
remove the 34 cats and 20 dogs from their shelter and load them
into our rescue vehicle.
John and Linda will transport them to the Forest County Fairgrounds
(five miles south of Hattiesburg) where a temporary animal
shelter has been set up. It takes two hours to get to Hattiesburg
from Gautier.

Animal Shelter in
Gautier, Mississippi. |
Our six experienced
investigators are part of
a 12-person team (with HSUS)
who will spend the rest
of today going door-to-door
looking for stranded pets.
John and Linda will return
to Gautier for another
pick-up late this afternoon/evening.
I think we will be in this
mode for at least a couple
of days.
