Humane Society of Missouri Disaster Response Team Comes to Aid of Pets Displaced by Tornado in Southern Missouri
May 15, 2008- The Humane Society of Missouri Disaster Response Team has been kept busy with herding 50 head of cattle and the rescue of 12 dogs and 4 horses. Three injured horses were taken to the Carthage Humane Society and one injured donkey was taken to the Joplin Humane Society.
Currently we are sheltering 23 animals in our large animal transport trailer and receiving many calls for assistance in locating lost pets.
May 13, 2008-The Humane Society of Missouri Disaster Response Team has set up a temporary shelter in Newton County to house lost or stray animals due to a deadly tornado that ripped through several small towns in southern Missouri. Many calls have come in asking for assistance with displaced livestock. The Humane Society of Missouri's large animal transport trailer has been set up to temporarily house stray cats and dogs as well as a few pets who are waiting for their owners to retrieve them.
Owners and animals have been mostly reunited but the team will continue to be available for any animal emergency that might arise in the coming days.
