Humane Society now receiving flood displaced pets at Winfield High School; temporary shelter at Pike County Fairgrounds remains open

June 20, 2008 - The Humane Society of Missouri, which has been providing animal rescue and sheltering in flood ravaged areas along the Mississippi for the past week, is now providing pet receiving services through its Mobile Animal Rescue Trailer stationed at the Winfield High School in Winfield, Missouri.

Persons who have been displaced by recent flooding and need temporary shelter for their personal pets can drop off their pets at the Humane Society trailer at Winfield High School 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today and Saturday. The Humane Society of Missouri will then transport the pets to the Pike County Fairgrounds where the Humane Society is operating a temporary shelter. Pets can also be taken directly to the Pike County Fairgrounds temporary shelter.

Also offering temporary pet sheltering services are the Canton Missouri Veterinary Clinic and the Hannibal Humane Society. The Humane Society of Missouri is providing pet food and supplies to these shelters as necessary.

Persons needing emergency animal rescue should contact their local law enforcement or emergency management officials or they can contact the Humane Society of Missouri at 314-647-4400.

An injured dog named Foley was taken to a local vet for a splint and pain control and is recovering at our temporary shelter.
A kitten rescued from flood waters by a citizen who brought it to us at Winfield High School. The kitten is now recovering at the Pike County Fairgrounds temporary shelter.
Annada, Charlie the horse's hometown overtaken by flood waters. Charlie and his owners evacuated earlier this week. Fortunately, no animals had to be rescued in Clarksville.
