Humane Society of Missouri to Open
Temporary Emergency Heating Center for Pets
December 4, 2006 - As the bitterly cold weather continues and thousands of area residents are still without power, the Humane Society of Missouri will offer temporary emergency pet shelter assistance to pet owners who have no power and have no other alternative housing for their pets.
WHEN: Beginning at noon, Monday, December 4, 2006
WHERE: Macklind Headquarters, 1201 Macklind Avenue, St. Louis City
Pets brought to the shelter should have proof of current vaccinations and owners must be willing to certify that the animals brought to the shelter are in good health. Owners with pets that have serious or chronic health problems should consult with their veterinarian.
Pet owners are advised that the best choice for pets is to do for your pet whatever you are doing for yourself. If you evacuate your home, if at all possible, take your pet with you or find alternative housing. According to Dr. Donald Bridges, Director of the Humane Society of Missouri Veterinary Medical Center, with access to appropriate indoor shelter, food and fresh water, most pets can withstand temperatures at 45 to 50 degrees.
