Pet Training Programs

"Sit Happens" every day at the

Humane Society of Missouri

When it comes to training, teaching the human is the most important part of any program. Your dog looks to you for guidance and instruction.

Our training program teaches you ways to effectively communicate with your dog, establishing the groundwork for a solid, long-lasting relationship between you and your best friend.

We also offer assistance to owners seeking help for individual behaviors issues like jumping up on people, pulling on leash, rough play, charging the doors, and other common problems. Our single session classes offer ideas and suggestions on how to prevent or modify simple unwanted behaviors. Schedules and class descriptions are included on this site.

Read below for more details About Our Classes and the other services we offer. If you need more information E-mail the Pet Training Department or call our training line at (314) 802-5709.

About Our Classes
Pet training classes are offered through a partnership between the Humane Society of Missouri and the Greater St. Louis Training Club.  Learn more about this  unique partnership HERE!

TRICKS ARE FOR DOGS!

Read below for information on
our upcoming Tricks Classes!

Click here to sign up for Behavior & Training 101. You must take this class before any other class.

A unique feature of our classes is the convenience they offer. In most classes owners purchase a punch card for 5 sessions and have 8 weeks to finish their punch card. This gives owners the option to take a week off without losing out on any class time. Great for busy families!

An additional benefit is that students move up to the next level as soon as they are ready. No one spends more time in a level than they need to. Some students move up through the levels with only one or two punch cards. Others take a little longer. Everyone moves at their own pace.

All classes are available at our St. Louis headquarters.   Chesterfield Valley offers many of the classes.  Class schedules depend on an adequate number of registrants and are listed on this web site. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to a lack of registrants.

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, class registration fees are not refundable. If you register for a class and are unable to attend, we will be happy to provide credit for a future class.

Chesterfield Valley Offers Training Classes!
We understand how inconvenient it is for dog owners to drive into our city location for obedience classes now that the I-64/Hwy 40 construction is has begun - so we are bringing the training classes to the county!

The Humane Society of Missouri proudly offers the same type of Family Dog classes that have made our training program at Macklind Avenue Headquarters such a great success at our Chesterfield Valley facility.

Classes are offered weekends, weekdays and evenings, so there is sure to be a time that fits your schedule.

Specialty Classes for Dogs With Talent!!!

WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE TWO NEW SESSIONS OF TRICKS CLASSES FOR TALENTED DOGS AND THEIR OWNERS!!!!

One session will be held at Macklind Avenue Headquarters the other one at Chesterfield Valley.

For information on the Macklind Avenue Class please click HERE.

For information about the Chesterfield Valley Class click HERE.

On-line registration is available for both of these classes.

Private Behavior Evaluations
We offer a 30-minute evaluation of dogs with fearful, shy, threatening or aggresive behavior history to determine appropriate services available at the Humane Society of Missouri. We require owners to complete 2 behavior questionnaires as a part of the evaluation process.

Private evaluations are held at the Macklind (314-802-5709) or Chesterfield Valley (636-530-8200) facilities. Call us or e-mail the Pet Training Department for additional information.

Private Training

We are able to offer private lessons for owners with busy schedules unable to attend a group class or who simply want the individualized attention of a private lesson.

Private lessons can be arranged to work on the same basic skills covered in our family dog classes or to address specific behavior issues, such as fearfulness, threatening behavior, rowdy behavior, resource guarding, etc.  Each session is individually designed to meet the needs of both pet and owner.

Lessons are held at the Macklind (314-802-5709) and Chesterfield Valley (636-530-8200) facilities. Call us or e-mail the Pet Training Department for additional information.

Behavior Helpline

Do you need some "pet parenting" advice? Our trained volunteers can give advice to help you introduce your new dog  to your resident dog, solve your cat's litterbox problems and tackle other issues. Contact the Behavior Helpline at (314)    951-1540,  e-mail your question to the Pet Training Department or visit our Behavior Helpline section.
