Since
1979, Humane Society of Missouri Visiting Pets volunteers
travel with their pets to area hospitals, nursing
homes and other long-term care facilities. These visits
brighten the residents' days, especially those who
once had pets of their own. Since there is a waiting
list of facilities hoping for visits, we are always
on the lookout for more people-pet teams.
Pet Qualifications
If your pet:
- Enjoys interacting with people of any race, sex,
color or size
- Is comfortable riding in a car
- Enjoys being with other animals
- Remains confident and outgoing outside of your
home in unusual environments
- Tolerates being petted by a number of people
at once
- Doesn't mind if someone accidentally pulls a
tail or ear
- Is between 1 and 10 years of age...
...then become a Visiting Pet Volunteer! For more
information, phone the Visiting Pets Coordinator
at (314) 951-1577 or e-mail
the volunteer department.
Visiting Pets Volunteers must be 18 years of
age or older and commit to two visits a month for
one year. Comprehensive training and testing is required
for both volunteers and pets. A $50.00 fee is charged
to cover the costs of training materials, pet care
items and volunteer uniform.
