The Humane
Society of Missouri is issuing the following advisory for all persons who wish
to help pets affected by the tornado disaster in Joplin this week.
SUPPLY DONATIONS
AND VOLUNTEERS
The
Joplin area is now overwhelmed with spontaneous supply donations and
volunteers. Therefore, all persons who wish to volunteer or contribute supplies
for people or pets are advised to dial the United Way’s 2-1-1 line or visit their website www.211missouri.org. This resource has information on current volunteer
and supply needs for the Joplin area.
Persons are advised NOT to travel to the area unless they have received
official authorization.
DONATIONS TO
HELP RESCUE AND SHELTER PETS IN THE JOPLIN AREA
Persons
wishing to help the Humane Society of Missouri Disaster Rescue Team may make
secure monetary donations at www.hsmo.org, by phone
314-951-1542 or in person at any HSMO St. Louis area location – 1201 Macklind
Avenue in St. Louis City, 2400 Drilling Service Road in Maryland Heights, and
17357 Edison Avenue in Chesterfield.
FOUND PETS/PETS
NEEDING SHELTER
Joplin
area residents are being advised to take pets they find or their own pets they
need shelter for to the Joplin Humane Society, 140 Emperor Road in Joplin. Expanded sheltering facilities are in
operation at this facility.
Background –
The
Humane Society of Missouri has been named by the State Emergency Management
Agency as the lead animal welfare agency in response to disasters and other
emergencies in Missouri. Currently, a 23-person Disaster Response Team
consisting of animal rescue, sheltering and veterinary professionals and
trained emergency volunteers are working in the Joplin area.
