Rescue Update: Travis

May 22, 2020

When we first met Travis, we could see him, but he couldn’t see us.

In late January, this scared, little stray dog had gotten his head stuck inside a piece of plastic pipe and HSMO’s Animal Cruelty Task Force was called to his rescue. After some quick work by our medical team, Travis was freed from the pipe, but we found that he had other issues that needed addressing before he would be ready for adoption.

We learned early on that Travis was suffering from heartworms and had weeks of treatment ahead. Travis was also extremely timid and nervous around people. It took lots of patience (and cheese!) before Travis felt comfortable trusting humans.

In order to give Travis the best chance at recovery and to help with his socialization, he was placed with one of our many wonderful foster volunteers, Dianne! He thrived while in his foster home and his sweet personality started to come through. Travis felt more relaxed and loved snuggling up to Dianne and playing with his foster siblings.

“Travis is an attentive and loving dog,” says Dianne. “He gets along great with people, children especially and loves to play with other dogs.”

We’re so glad that a kind stranger called our Animal Cruelty Task Force on that cold January day. Because of their quick thinking, we were able to save this sweet pup and give him the treatment he needed! In May, Travis was adopted and is settling into his loving forever home!

Transformations like this are made possible only through the generous support of our community. Thank you for saving animals like Travis and for giving them the second chances they deserve!
